Tome or Lore: Which Software Should You Choose?

You’ve recently discovered the Amsel Suite but aren’t sure which software to choose?
Each tool has its own purpose. You may only need one software—or the full suite. Here’s how to choose the right tool based on your creative needs.
Amsel Suite for Role‑Playing Games
Amsel Suite was originally designed for tabletop RPGs. However, each software has its own role when it comes to creating and running RPG campaigns.
Developing Your Own RPG Universe
If you have an idea for a world and want to develop your universe while keeping everything clearly structured, Lore, our worldbuilding software, is likely the tool you need.
It works like a wiki, but comes with a unique template system that helps you organize every element of your world.
You can store all kinds of information inside: places, characters, their backstories, and more.
In Lore, you can also create links between your pages to easily find information and access it with a single click.
Running a Campaign With Players
If you’re a game master looking to run role‑playing campaigns, Tome, our storytelling software, will be the most suitable tool.
Whether you play online or in person, Tome can be used in different ways. It helps you build your campaign, track player choices session after session, and follow the narrative effortlessly.
With its arcs, chapters, and scenes system, Tome helps you structure your entire RPG campaign so you don’t forget anything.
You can also use it to store player information, NPC details, and any other essential elements for your campaign.
The Toolboard can be especially helpful if you play online, with features like card drawing, dice rolling, and destiny stone throws.
Storing a Pre‑Existing RPG Universe
If you don’t want to create your own world but would rather use an established setting—such as Dungeons & Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, or Alien—you can absolutely use Lore.
Lore adapts to any RPG universe. You’re completely free to structure the world however you want in this worldbuilding tool.
Additionally, a Lore file (called a Lory) can be connected to Tome, allowing you to use the same universe across multiple campaigns.
Amsel Suite for Writers
Although this isn’t its primary purpose, the Amsel Suite community also includes many writers looking for offline tools with a one‑time purchase model to store everything related to their works.
Creating a Novel’s Universe
To develop the universe of your novel, we recommend using Lore. This software is designed to organize and optimize all the information in a fictional world.
Creating your world in Lore can give you a clearer vision of your story. It also helps you quickly retrieve details to use later in specific parts of your manuscript or to move the plot forward.
Writing a Story
If you want to write a novel, an essay, or any other type of narrative, Tome will be the most appropriate software.
You can structure the different parts of your story thanks to chapters and scenes.
Note: for now, you can’t export page content directly. However, you can still use Tome to build your narrative and keep everything organized.
Using Amsel Suite for Other Projects
Even though Amsel Suite was created to meet the needs of game masters, more and more creatives use it for other types of projects.
Here’s a non‑exhaustive list of creations made with Tome and Lore.
Other Uses for Lore
Lore can also be used to create other types of projects, such as:
- A family tree
- Storing worldbuilding content for a video game
- An inventory system for species and biodiversity
Other Uses for Tome
Tome can also be used for various creative projects, such as:
- A dice‑rolling system
- Random card drawing
- A quiz system for friends
- Structuring a narrative experience for a video game
