How to use mirror links in Lore?

mirror link lore

A major new feature in Update 1.3, mirror links have been added to Lore's essential features for saving time and creating links between your pages. Find out how to use them effectively!

What is a mirror link?

Mirror links are a new type of block you can add to your templates. This feature offers a rather innovative format, which looks a lot like a backlink system, but with its own specific characteristics.

Overall, a mirror link brings together all the elements that are linked, to create a harmonious structure

For example, if in the universe you've created with our worldbuilding software, you've imagined a particular belief, in the page for that belief, you'll see all the characters who hold that belief mirrored. The belief in question is also mirrored on the relevant character's page

Mirror links therefore help to summarize and organize all the elements that go together. This feature can of course be used as you wish.

Create a mirror link

Want to set up mirror links in your Lore? Here's a step-by-step tutorial.

Building templates and pages

Let's imagine you're creating a template for the characters in your world, and you want to assign the languages they speak to them .

In this case, you'll create a template called “Languages”. You can use this template to create pages for each language. All pages will then be displayed in your Lory as a list.

Adding a mirror to a template

Want to assign a language to a character? No problem! In your basic character template, add a “mirror” block using the palette on the right, and link it to your “Languages” template.

Linking a page

Once your template is ready, you can start creating your characters. On each character page, select the languages spoken by your characters.

In this example, the character Nester Adanion speaks Kuniâ, Old Rolandais, Linsan and Rolandais. You can therefore add the languages directly to his page.

This is where the use of mirror links truly comes into play: since we added Kuniâ, Old Rolandian, Linsan, and Rolandian among the languages spoken by Nester Adanion, Nester Adanion is also added to the pages of those languages, in a mirror block pointing to the characters

This way, it becomes easy to automatically generate a list of speakers for these languages: you simply need to fill in the languages spoken by each character on their respective pages, and the list of speakers is populated automatically.

In this other image, we used a new mirror link to connect characters — including Nester Adanion — to an element: the Void. In this universe, all characters are connected to an element. Listing all the characters linked to the Void would be very tedious, but with mirror links, the list filled itself in automatically as new characters were created

Why use mirror links?

Mirrors are designed to facilitate navigation and link management between pages, by providing an overview of the relationships between elements.

As the creator, you are completely free to use mirrors as you wish. You can use them for skills, attributes and beliefs, but also for objects and relationships between characters. A few examples:

  • Linking all beasts in your world to their relevant biome will create a list of all beasts in a bioma automatically
  • Linking all cities in your world to their respective country will create a list of all relevant cities in that country page
  • Linking all spells to the components needed to cast it will give you a list of spells a component can be used for in its page
  • Etc.

Create the links that make the most sense in your world!
